Amoako Boafo (b. 1984; Accra, Ghana; lives and works in Ghana) is innovative in his approach: acclaimed for his eNTiCing finger-painted portraits, his work has become landmarked in the pictorial subset of art history.
Through striking, often monotone and direct portraits, Boafo engages in an intimate closeness with his subjects. The figures gaze with unwavering firmness as they look to the viewer with stern dispositions. Typically isolated on singlecolor backgrounds, viewers have nowhere to look but at the subjects, leaving little room for misinterpretation. His tableaux vivants are placed at a high recognition, both physically regarding their size and spiritually in terms of their grandeur.
Boafo studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna (Austria) and in 2017 was awarded with the jury prize, Walter Koschatzky Art Prize. His work has been widely collected by private and public collections, most recently by the Wooyang Art Museum (South Korea), Denver Art Museum (Denver, Colorado), the Musée National d’Art Moderne, Centre Pompidou (Paris, France), the Leopold Museum (Vienna, Austria), Tate Modern (London, UK), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles, California), and Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York, New York).
His work has been exhibited in institutions such as the Belvedere Museum (Vienna, Austria), Kunsthalle Vienna (Vienna, Austria), Seattle Art Museum (Seattle, WA), Museum of the African Diaspora (San Francisco, CA) and The Bass Museum (Miami, Florida), among others.
THE WINNER OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THE MAISON PERRIER® ART PRIZE
Yanma Fofana (b. 1999; France) is a painter based in Paris.
Trained at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, she also studied at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her work takes the family sphere as its starting point, conceiving it as a space of unstable memory, shaped by processes of appearance and erasure. Her paintings feature figures that are often fragmented or held at a distance, caught within spaces that are both constructed and uncertain. Her practice relies on processes of layering, glazing, andd erasure, producing shifting surfaces. Purple, which recurs in her recent works, contributes to an atmosphere that is both intimate and dreamlike.
As the recipient of the MAISON PERRIER® Art Prize 2026, Yanma Fofana will embark on a unique journey of mentorship and creation. The prize includes a dedicated mentorship with Amoako Boafo, as well as a six-week residency at dot.ateliers in Accra, Ghana, a space founded by the artist to encourage dialogue, experimentation, and cultural exchange.
In addition, Yanma Fofana will receive €40,000 as compensation, alongside the opportunity to collaborate on a limited-edition design on MAISON PERRIER® packaging. Launching in 2027, two exclusive brands’ iconic packaging, one by Amoako Boafo and one by Yanma Fofana, will bring their artistic visions to a global audience.
